Clear aligners are a set of specially designed, removable, transparent plastic orthodontic aligners worn in place of fixed braces and are also known as an aesthetic alternative. They are slowly pushing teeth into the desired position and are very popular, not to mention that adults and older teens prefer them because they are virtually invisible.

Indications

  • Sequential Trays : In this treatment, a series of aligners is used; each new one is worn for approximately 1 to 2 weeks, with mild pressure applied to the teeth to move them into position.
  • Material : they are usually composed of smooth, non-toxic, BPA-free thermoplastic polyurethane.
  • Wear Time : Aligners are to be worn for at least 20-22 hours daily and may only be removed during eating, drinking (except water), and oral hygiene.
  • Attachments (Buttons) : In some complicated tooth movements, tiny, tooth-like bumps called attachments or buttons are cemented to the teeth to enable the aligner to hold and exert force to that point more effectively

Effects

  • Better Oral Hygiene : Patients can brush and floss as they normally would, since the aligners are removable. This improves overall gum and tooth health during treatment compared to fixed appliances.
  • Minimal Soft Tissue Irritation : The smooth plastic substance and custom fit significantly reduce the likelihood of irritation, cuts, and sores commonly associated with the brackets and wires of conventional braces, making the process more comfortable.
  • Predictable and Consistent Movement : Aligners represent a treatment course planned in digital form using 3D technology, which enables the application of only predictable, controlled pressure on the teeth to achieve the final expected effect.
